Will there be a revival in the IPO markets soon?

Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) always held out an attraction for capital markets – for one, it is the clearest indicator of a performing regulator focused on market development and linkages between the economy and the bourse.

At its core, it validates the foundational premise that the capital market represents the most important platform for raising cheaper funds for business to fund expansion and build a nation.

Stocks no one is patronising

The NSE All-Share Index opened the year 2008 at 58, 579.77 basis point. It recorded -52.06% losses to close the year at 28,085.01 basis points. In the same period of review, NSE Market CAP lost N3.33 trillion after opening 2008 at N10.28 trillion and closed at N6.95 trillion. The market witnessed reduced losses in 2009 as it recorded -33.58% losses. The Index opened the year at 31,357.24 basis points and closed at 20, 827.17 basis points while market CAP also lost N1.95 trillion representing -28.14% loss at the end of the year.

However in 2010, the market bounced back to record +18.87% gains while market CAP recorded +58.52% gains. It closed 2011 with -17.42% loss while market YTD performance stands at +6.95% as at 30th May, 2012.

180612 NSE ASI dips by -0.74% as Dangote Cement Plc recorded -4.00% losses

As investors return from the weekend, the bears continue to dominate market activities as tradings closed pessimistic for the third consecutive session to open the first trading day of the week negative while the -4.00% loss recorded in the share price of Dangote Cement Plc, market leader by capitalization, also contributed to the outlook witnessed today despite the positive market breadth observed.

Nevertheless, the key benchmark indices sustained downtrend as sentiments remained negative, taking hits majorly from Large CAP stock which was particularly driven by DANGCEM while Small CAP stocks also contributed to the outlook recorded today due to renewed selling activities witnessed in Agriculture, Conglomerates, Financial Services, Healthcare Industrial Goods and Oil & Gas sectors.
